Keeping fit is a goal that all of us should try hard to achieve especially in this modern times when unhealthy lifestyle seems to be the fad. Fitness is important because it ensures us that we can enjoy our lives to the fullest and spend more enjoyable time with our loved ones. In striving towards good body fitness, we typically need to consider two things: diet and exercise. In school we are taught about the healthy and nutritious foods that we need to take in order for the body to be strong and healthy. In exercising, we have many options to choose from, just as there are many types of fitness machines available.

Most people go to the gym when they want to exercise and perform their fitness routines. In the gyms, one can see two basic types of fitness equipment and these are the free weights and the fitness machines. Free weights some in various shapes and sizes. They are known to allow free body movements are great options for strength building yet the user may be exposed to injuries when using free weights so safety precautions must always be considered.

Fitness machines are also of varied types. These machines are designed to allow the user to perform different types of exercise programs. There are machines designed for working just some specific muscles in the body. Others have multiple stations for working the entire body of the user. These multi-stationed machines are often preferred as home gym equipment because they are less costly and space saving. Compared to free weights, machines are safer and much easier to use. Both free weights and machines have their own pros and cons and it depends on the user which tools he or she wants to use yet in order to get the best possible results, you might want to consider incorporating both of them in your exercise regimen.
While squatting may be considered by some as the best leg exercise, the leg press is the preeminent machine for the same purpose. Majority of leg presses are situated in a 45° position. This allows the user to lift weights and not worry on falls or slips. Reduced amount of stress are also placed on the lower part of the back as well as the knees.
Hack squat is another fitness machine is a variant of the regular barbell squat which is ideal in working the outer thigh sweeps. The leg extension effectively isolates the quadriceps. This machine is used by people who wish to warm up the joints of the knees prior to using the leg press or doing the squats. For exercising the hamstring muscles, the leg curl is one good machine to use.
The calf machines are of two types, one for standing and one for sitting. The standing calf is for working the muscles of the upper calf while the seated calf is for working the muscles in the lower calf. The leg adduction is for the inner parts of the thighs while the leg abduction is for the outer parts of the thighs. There are machines that combine two equipments while others are in separate machines.
